Periodontal Root Planing and Scaling

At the office of Dr. DeRosa in Saugerties, one of our largest goals is to help you and your family maintain optimal oral health. This involves keeping the teeth as well as the gums and bone that support your teeth healthy and free from periodontal (gum) disease. Periodontal disease occurs when calculus and plaque are allowed to accumulate on the teeth. When left untreated, periodontal disease can cause tooth loss and has been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

We provide two deep cleaning procedures, scaling and root planing, to treat and reverse the earliest stage of periodontal disease: gingivitis. These often pain-free procedures can be completed in one or more appointments, depending on which and how many areas of the mouth are affected. One of the first signs of periodontal disease is gums that bleed. Healthy gums never bleed, so if you notice any bleeding at all, contact our office immediately to schedule your appointment and begin improving your oral health.
